This game requires fairly up-to-date 3D hardware to operate correctly.
Elements of importance include a fairly recent video card AND (most overlooked part) DirectX 8.0 compatible drivers. The game will notify you if your driver was not designed for DirectX 8.0 prior to loading.
To determine your video card driver version:
- Right click on "My Computer" on the desktop and click "properties".
- Go to the "Device Manager" tab of the dialog that appears.
- Click the "+" next to "Display Adapters" to find your video card.
- Select your video card by clicking it and then clicking "properties".
- Go to the "Driver" tab of the dialog that appears.
- Click "Driver File Details" and look at the version of the files.
- Some drivers have the true 'version' after the final decimal of the version number.
Here is a listing of cards that are known to operate correctly and have DirectX 8.0 support in their drivers.
- NVidia TNT2, GeForce, GeForce 2, GeForce 2 MX, GeForce 3 series.
- Driver required: v7.52 or higher. Recommended: v12.41.
- Win 98/ME : Download Win 2000 : Download
- 3dfx Voodoo4, Voodoo5 series.
- Driver required: v1.04.00 or higher. Recommended: v1.04.01 (Beta).
- Win 98/ME/2000 : Download
- ATI All-In-Wonder 32MB, Rage 128 Pro, Rage Fury, Radeon series.
- Driver required: vx.13.xxxx. Recommended: x.13.xxxx generally denotes DX8 driver.
- Win 98/ME/2000 : Download
- Intel 810, 810E Integrated Graphics Chipsets.
- Driver required: v6.x. Recommended: v6.3.1.
- Win 98/ME/2000 : Download
Important Note: Your video card manufacturer may have provided its own driver set. In this case, it is strongly recommended to acquire the drivers from the manufacturer rather than from these generic links.
Here is a listing of cards that are known to fail due to insufficient DirectX 8.0 support in their drivers.
- NVidia TNT(1) series and earlier.
- 3dfx Voodoo3 series and earlier.
- ATI Rage iic series and earlier.
If you own a card that falls into the insufficient category, you will most probably be unable to run the game. Cards not listed have not been tested and, depending on driver support, may or may not be able to run the game correctly. If the manufacturer has released DirectX 8.0 drivers, the game should run as intended, though DirectX 7.0 drivers and earlier have undefined results.
